Running Happy for Lewa

The prospect of running far is always intimidating, but running for something that affects such great changes in the world is both inspiring and terrifying at the same time. I’m running in support of Tusk, but more specifically the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.

 

The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is part of the UNESCO Mt. Kenya World Heritage site, a Man & Biosphere Reserve and has been Green Listed by the IUCN for excellence in protected area management. Run by Kenyans for Kenyans, their aim is to serve as a catalyst for wildlife conservation and the improvement of community livelihoods. By using a community based conservation approach the conservancy serves as a safe refuge for the critically endangered black rhino and the endangered Grevy’s zebra, as well as the elephant, lion, giraffe, wild dog and other iconic wildlife species in Kenya.

 

It is impossible to list all the changes and great initiatives that Lewa has facilitated over the last few years; but what I can say is that this part of the world is unique, and the people who support it are extraordinary and true heroes. The good news is, is that we can help.

 

I pledge to do my absolute best, embracing epic landscapes, gulping in high altitude mountain air with copious amounts of gratitude; and "snail it" (when it takes a while but eventually you nail it) to the finish line.
